What I Learned During My Summer Job at Scosche Industries

Who I Am

My journey at Scosche started a long time before this summer job, which is a bit peculiar because I am only 20 years old. I am a rising Junior at Baylor University and am majoring in Communications and minoring in Business Administration. I was unsure of whether I was going to return to my home here in Southern California for the summer, but once I was given the option to come work at Scosche, I instantly booked my flight back. But as I said, my familiarity with this company began years before I made the trek to Waco, Texas.

How I Learned About Scosche

When I was an awkward middle schooler, as we all once were, I was given a little yellow BoomBottle H2O which I thought was the coolest thing in the world. It is safe to say that my Scosche collection has significantly grown since then. Speakers, chargers, backup batteries, and mounts fill every drawer and are mounted on every surface in my apartment back in Waco. The GoBat 6000 has saved my life many times and the MagicMounts surfaced in my car help my “directionally challenged” self get from place to place safely. The BoomBottles travel with me everywhere, and are used at every pool day, pick up sports game, and even accompany me during the less exciting activities, like deep cleaning my apartment.

My Time at Scosche

Being only 20, it is surprising to say that I have been involved with this company for quite some time. When I was 15 as an underclassman in high school, well after my obsession with Scosche products had begun, I was given the opportunity to intern here at Scosche in their Product Development Department for the summer. I spent countless hours testing wires and creating spreadsheets which was an awesome experience to have at such a young age.

Now, flash forward 5 years, and I am back for a summer helping in both Human Resources and Marketing. Since I am not dead set on what specific career I want to pursue, being able to experience two separate and very different departments is helping me figure out my corporate interests. With that said, I have greatly enjoyed working in both areas and I have been learning loads of valuable information. In Marketing I have learned how to navigate different online systems to input product orders and have been invited to attend administrative and trade show meetings. HR, on the other hand, has been filled with organizing files, planning company events, working on YouTube videos, and writing company emails and letters. Everyone here at Scosche has been extremely welcoming and inviting, just as they always have been, and I am greatly enjoying working here.

Where to From Here

At the end of the summer, I will by flying back to Texas… oh the stress of flying. I have some of the worst luck when it comes to airports, whether it is my flight getting delayed for hours or my luggage being lost. There is rarely a trip to the airport that goes smoothly for me. Another issue that I constantly run into is forgetting to carry non-Bluetooth earphones for the plane ride, causing me to sit and stare into space for the entirety of the flight. This is why I am super excited to try out FlyTunes! I will no longer have to deal with the stress of bringing multiple pairs of headphones on the plane! The products that Scosche makes are top-notch and my summer job here has been just as great as their products are.
